My wife wears glasses. She needs progressive lens that correct for both near and far sight depreciation. Her eyesight has gotten worse, making the glasses she has underpowered for her needs. Prior to leaving Ireland she had her eyes tested and her prescription updated. We left Ireland before she could buy glasses per her new prescription. A couple of weeks ago we went glasses hunting in Carpentras, a nothing special biggish town in Provence. In the second place we looked, after confirming that we were not covered by French medical insurance, we showed the lady her Irish eye test results. With the test data, thus not needing a trip to a French eye doctor, she was able to offer not one but two pairs of progressive glasses for €29.90 provided we selected from their basic set of frames. In Ireland such a purchase costs €3-400. She, my wife that is, ordered two pairs because even if the frames are not up to much in terms of style, she will have them to wear around the house and for jewellery making. The lady in the show also said the French progressives have 3 sections to the lens not two. In addition to the far and near seeing areas there is a third neutral area. I just got a txt message from the shop that the glasses are ready. Two pairs of glasses with progressive pairs of glasses for less than €29.90, sweet. It took somewhere in or about 10 days for the glasses to come through so if you are traveling in France and have that kind of time to play with, and you need prescription glasses, and you don’t want to pay Irish prices, now you know!
